What it does

Every U.S. bank’s mortgage portfolio shifts quarter to quarter — servicing books get sold, HELOC balances move, CRE exposure goes on and off the balance sheet. This panel is the fastest way to see who moved what between any two quarters, ranked by dollar Δ.

What’s in it:

  • Loan type: 1–4 family closed-end, HELOCs, multifamily (5+ unit), and nonfarm nonresidential (commercial real estate).
  • Position: owned on balance sheet, serviced for others, or sold during the quarter — plus MSR as a balance-sheet asset (carrying value).
  • Any two quarters back to 2019 for 2-quarter Δ; longer baselines available in the per-bank drill-down.
  • Holding-company roll-up toggle — see JPMC Bank NA alone or the parent group rolled up.
  • Per-bank detail page — click any institution to see the full 4×3 metric matrix with QoQ, YoY, and the entire quarterly trajectory charted.
  • Full ranked-delta CSV export for any filter combination.

Sample questions this answers in one click:

  • “Which banks grew their HELOC book most last quarter?”
  • “Where did Wells Fargo’s MSR go between 2022 and 2024?”
  • “Which banks sold the most 1–4 family loans this quarter?”
  • “Top gainers in multifamily balance held, YoY.”
  • “Every bank with a mortgage servicing book over $100B.”

Who finds this useful: MSR traders and whole-loan desks tracking which banks are selling into their market; bank-credit analysts watching HELOC and CRE exposure shifts; mortgage M&A teams sizing up targets; research analysts assembling bank-sector league tables.

Data limitation: the HELOC-serviced-for-others line is reported only by the ~50 largest banks that file consolidated. Community-bank HELOC servicing will not appear here — the regulatory filing doesn’t publish it separately.
